Coupons and trials
Where to enter a code, what the quote shows, how percent and amount discounts run, how a free trial starts and ends, and the plain-words reason when a code is refused.

Short answer
?code=. A code is either a discount (percent or amount; once, for N months, or forever), a free trial (days or months, card required or optional), or a trial followed by a discount. One workspace gets one trial, and Akili emails you three days before a trial ends.Enter a promo code at checkout
- Step 1
Reach checkout
Pick a plan at/upgrade(or/signup/planfor a new account). The promo field is on the checkout page, under the order details. - Step 2
Open the field and apply
Click Have a promo code?, type the code and press Apply (Enter works too). Akili checks it and shows “Checking your code…” while it does. - Step 3
Read the quote
An applied code becomes a chip with its terms and a Remove button. The order details gain a line “Code {code}”, then You save {amount} today, then {amount}/month (or /year), and, when they apply, Valid until {date} and {count} uses left. Prices exclude tax. - Step 4
Subscribe
The button reads Subscribe · {amount} today for a discount or Start free trial for a trial. The success page repeats what was applied: “Code {code} applied · {terms}” and the amount you saved.
Codes that arrive by link
A link such as /pricing?code=SPRING or /upgrade/pro?code=SPRING carries the code with you. On the pricing page each eligible plan card shows what the code does for it (“With SPRING: … for the first month” or “14-day free trial”) and says when it does not apply. At checkout the code is already applied, with the banner “Code SPRING was applied from your link.” If you are signed out, sign-up keeps the plan, seats, period and code in the URL and brings you back to the same checkout.
Discount codes
| Shape | Quote wording |
|---|---|
| Percent off | "20% off" |
| Amount off | "{amount} off" — only on plans priced in the same currency as the code |
| Once | "… on your first payment" |
| Repeating | "… for N months" — the months count from the first invoice, including any trial |
| Forever | "…, forever" — for as long as you stay subscribed |
A code may be limited to certain plans, to a sales channel, to first purchases, to one use per workspace, to a minimum order, to a date window or to a total number of redemptions. The quote tells you which rule stopped it (see below).
Free-trial codes
A trial code starts the plan now and moves the first charge to the end of the trial. Trials are expressed in days (1–366) or months (1–12); the checkout chip reads “{count}-day free trial”.
- What checkout shows. Due today at zero, then “Free until {date}, then {price}. Cancel any time before then and you will not be charged.” The footer repeats the first-charge date and amount.
- Card required or optional. Each code decides. “Card required at checkout.” means Stripe collects a card now and charges it when the trial ends. “No card needed now; the trial ends unless you add one.” means the subscription is set to cancel at the end of the trial unless a payment method is on file by then.
- One trial per workspace. Any earlier subscription with a trial, or any trial redemption on this workspace or account, counts. A second trial code is refused with “This workspace has already used a free trial, so {code} does not apply. You can still subscribe at the regular price.” Trial codes are also always first-purchase only.
- During the trial. You have the plan’s full features and credits. Settings → Billing shows status Trial, a Trial ends date and the notice “Cancel before then using Manage subscription below and nothing is charged.” Cancel through the Stripe portal.
- Three days before the end Akili emails “Your {plan} trial ends on {date}”, or “… unless you add a card” when no card is on file. Trials shorter than four days get no reminder.
- At the end, with a card: the first invoice is charged and the subscription continues. Without a card: the subscription ends, status becomes Canceled and the workspace falls back to the free plan. Nothing is deleted.
- Trial then discount. Some codes chain both; the chip shows “14-day free trial · 20% off for 3 months”. The discount applies to the first paid invoice after the trial. A repeating discount must run at least one month past the trial.
Introductory offers on plans
Some plans ship with a built-in discount. The pricing card says “Intro offer: 20% off for your first 3 months, applied at checkout”, and checkout shows the chip Intro offer · {terms} with the line Introductory offer in the order details. An intro offer is a discount, not a free trial: you are charged the reduced amount today. Entering a code replaces it, and the field then reads Have a different code?.
Redeem a license code
Partners and resellers buy seats in advance and hand their clients a redemption code: usually four groups of four characters, in a link like /redeem?code=ABCD-EFGH-JKMN-PQRS.
- Step 1
Open /redeem and paste the code
Akili shows what it includes — plan, seats and the date it runs until — before anything is created. "Verified — nothing to pay." - Step 2
Name the workspace and sign in
Enter a workspace name and your work email, set a password or continue with Microsoft. Existing accounts just confirm who they are signed in as. - Step 3
Create workspace
The workspace is created on the licensed plan with its seats. No card, no plan to choose, no checkout; you land in the welcome flow.
Partners manage and print their codes from the partner dashboard at /partners; the print view at /partners/codes/print produces QR cards with the redeem link, code, plan, seats and term.
Why a code is refused
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| That code isn't valid. | No code with that spelling exists. | Check the spelling; codes aren't case-sensitive. |
| This code is no longer available. | The code was withdrawn or paused, or its start date has not arrived. | Ask whoever gave it to you. |
| This code has expired. / expired on {date} | Its redeem-by date has passed. | Ask for a current code. |
| This code has been fully redeemed. | Its total number of redemptions is used up. | Ask for another code. |
| This code has already been used on this workspace. | It is a one-per-customer code and this workspace used it. | Subscribe at the regular price or use a different code. |
| This code doesn't apply to this plan. | It is limited to other plans. | Press "Switch to {plan} and apply" when offered. |
| This code needs an order of at least {amount}. | The quote is under the code's minimum. | Add seats or pick annual billing. |
| This code can't be used for this purchase. | It belongs to another sales channel. | Use the channel it was issued for. |
| This code is for first purchases only. | The workspace has subscribed before. | Subscribe at the regular price. |
| This workspace has already used a free trial… | One trial per workspace. | Subscribe at the regular price; a discount code may still work. |
Redemption codes at /redeem have their own messages: not recognized (check for a typo), already used (a workspace was created with it), withdrawn (the order behind it was refunded or reissued), expired, could not be verified (do not use it elsewhere), or the plan is no longer available. In every case the fix is to contact whoever supplied the code.
Good to know
- Codes are not stored. A code travels in the URL between pricing, sign-up and checkout; if you navigate away without it, re-enter it on the checkout page.
- Billing period is not restricted. A code that applies to a plan applies to both its monthly and annual prices.
- Uses left only shows when 20 or fewer redemptions remain.
- The reminder email links to Billing (
/?settings=billing), where Manage in Stripe lets you cancel or add a card before the trial ends.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply a code to a subscription I already have?
Not from the Billing section in Akili. Codes are applied at checkout, when you first subscribe from /upgrade or /signup/plan. The Stripe billing portal (Settings → Billing → Manage in Stripe) accepts promotion codes on an existing subscription where Stripe allows it.
Are codes case-sensitive?
No. Codes are upper-cased and spaces are removed as you type, and the link form ?code= is read the same way.
Do I need a card to start a free trial?
It depends on the code. Checkout says either "Card required at checkout." or "No card needed now; the trial ends unless you add one." With no card on file the subscription simply ends at the trial end date and nothing is charged.
Can I use two codes, or a code plus the plan's intro offer?
One discount per checkout. Typing a code replaces the plan's introductory offer, and checkout says so; remove the code to get the intro offer back.
What is the difference between a promo code and a redemption code?
A promo code changes the price or adds a trial at checkout. A redemption code (usually four groups of four characters, entered at /redeem) is a license a partner bought for you: it creates a workspace on a plan with seats already paid, with no card and no checkout.
